AT YOUR REQUEST: ADDRESSING SMALL SPACES
We have had so much fun coordinating our blog posts around subjects you want to know more about! And one suggestion we have received quite a few times is how to design small spaces. So let me just give you my first tip when it comes to furnishing and decorating your small space: DON’T DESIGN SMALL!
We shared this design tip via Instagram last week and received so many great responses! So head to my ‘design tips’ highlight via Instagram if you’d like to get a better idea of what we mean by that statement.
As for the blog post today, we’ve put together 6 crucial tips for designing a small space, below.
NO. 1 OPT FOR A DINING NOOK
This is something we’ve implemented in our own apartment and I could not be more happy about it! So why does this deign work for small spaces you may ask? Because you get to utilize corner space that would otherwise be dead space. Also, opting for a bench against the wall allows for more space in the room since you don't have to leave a walkway behind the dining chairs on one side. Pair it with a small round table for the perfect dining nook space saver!

NO. 2 DESIGN BIGGER
This is a mistake I see A LOT in small spaces. Because the room is small, people think that they need small scale everything! NOT THE CASE. It may seem like an odd concept, but furnishing your small room with fewer, larger-scale furnishings will make the room feel much more grand. Oppose to a smothered room cluttered with tiny objects to fill the space. Don’t be afraid to have your large furniture pieces take up most of the room. Finish your space off with simple styling and you’re golden my friend!
NO. 3 USE MIRRORS
It’s about the oldest design trick in the book, but is proven to work every time. The key here is to trick the eye! Mirrors reflect the light in the room. So by using them as wall decor, the space will actually look bigger and brighter! Plus, mirrors don’t have to be boring…

NO. 4 DON’T OVER CLUTTER
Reiterating what I mentioned above - think simple. If you haven’t yet, it’s time to watch Marie Kondo on Netflix and get inspired! Because editing your “things” and keeping your styling and display moments to a minimum are a MUST. Nothing makes a room feel smaller than clutter. Give everything room to breathe and I promise your room with feel more spacious!
NO. 5 GO NEUTRAL
A simple, even tone throughout the room is another way of tricking the eye! It will make the room feel more spacious than it may actually be. Simply because your eyes will be at rest. Bold pops of colors and patterns distract and divert your attention, making the room feel much louder. So go for calm, serene, relaxing, soothing vibes if you will, as you consider your selections.

NO. 6 DON’T USE ALL CLOSED STORAGE
Similar to the mirror effect, this is a great tool. Whether you’re opting for a glass storage cabinet ( like above ) or adding some open shelves, you’ll be surprised how much this helps. I’ve found that if everything is “closed in” that’s how your room will feel too!
